One of the Bulletin's principal attractions is the unique contribution it makes to the dissemination of decisions in ICC cases, whether these be arbitral awards or procedural orders. The approach it has consistently followed over the past 25 years is to publish in each issue redacted extracts from a number of awards or procedural orders on a chosen subject. With this issue, we inaugurate a slightly different approach. Not only are we covering two distinct economic sectors - the hotel and shipbuilding industries - but the extracts published in the printed version of the Bulletin are complemented by the publication of the full awards plus a number of additional awards, all in redacted form, online in the ICC Dispute Resolution Library at http://www.iccdrl.com. It is often the case that the extracts chosen for publication do not exhaust the tribunal's treatment of the subject in question, so reproduction of the award in full will fill out the picture and provide a more comprehensive view of the case in question. Needless to say, the publication of complete awards provides a number of other advantages, too. They may offer instructive insight into drafting matters, such as how the content of an award is structured, the arguments set out and the tribunal's reasoning presented. Also, regardless of the subject, the full award will invariably contain sections on recurrent issues like costs and interest, which will doubtless be found of value, too.
Alongside the awards, we are pleased to publish two commentaries, which provide an overview of the questions dealt with in the awards and assess the conclusions reached by the tribunals in these cases. The two commentators - Romain Dupeyré on the hospitality industry and Béatrice Favarel on shipbuilding - draw on their considerable experience as specialists in their respective fields. Their comments provide a road map that will help guide the reader through the awards.
This issue also reports on the many initiatives that have been taken within the institution in recent months with a view to enhancing the efficiency and transparency of ICC arbitration. They are conveniently recapitulated in an article by José Ricardo Feris, who explains the background to these changes, the purposes they pursue and how they have been implemented.
